Emergency exit signs should be illuminated to comply with OSHA Exit Routes and Emergency Planning requirements set out in 1910.37. As stated in paragraph (b)(6), “Each exit sign must be illuminated to a surface value of at least five foot-candles (54 lux) by a reliable light source and be distinctive in color. Q.Do your Glow Emergency Exit Door Signs fulfill IBC requirements for luminous signs?
According to the 2018 International Building Code Section 1025.2.6.1, emergency exit doors are required to be identified with a luminous emergency sign that complies with NFPA 170.
The luminance of our Glow Emergency Exit Door Signs measures over 20 mcd/m2 (milicandela per square meter) after 10 minutes in full darkness; and 2.8 mcd/m2 after 60 minutes in full darkness. Q.Do emergency exit signs have to be a specific color?
Emergency exit signs are mostly green or red in color. Where OSHA does not specify a particular color but only requires that any color or color combinations used be readily visible and contrasting against the wall. NFPA allows users to choose from green or red. Local building codes may prescribe certain specific color requirements and it may be a good idea to check with them.
Q.I need Braille signs to mark emergency exits in my facility. Are those available?
